Atheism—More Rational Than Belief in God?

U.S. dollar with God crossed out of motto

Is belief in God rational? Many who hold to an atheistic worldview would say, “No, belief in a God you can’t see, hear, or touch is not a rational belief. It might give you comfort or purpose, but it’s not rational in our scientific era.” But what if we think of this question differently? Is the belief that there’s no God rational?

Atheism is ultimately a materialistic belief system. Materialism is the belief that nature is all there is (there is no supernatural). But this belief system destroys the possibility of knowledge, including science and technology! Far from being the only rational belief system, the atheistic worldview makes it impossible to prove anything.

Far from being the only rational belief system, the atheistic worldview makes it impossible to prove anything.

Consider, for example, the laws of logic. These are immaterial laws, such as the law of non-contradiction, which says that A can’t be A and not-A at the same time and in the same relationship. It’s laws such as this that make knowledge, reasoning, and logic possible. But all of those things are immaterial, and yet the atheistic worldview denies the immaterial! Within their own worldview, logic and reasoning can’t exist. They must borrow from another worldview in order to even argue their own worldview! And which worldview must they borrow from?

The Christian worldview! You see, knowledge, reasoning, and logic make sense in a biblical worldview. God cannot deny himself (2 Timothy 2:13), does not change (Hebrews 13:8), and upholds the universe (Hebrews 1:3), so we expect the universe to operate in a consistent and orderly way. The laws of logic rest on God’s unchanging, consistent nature. That’s why immaterial laws can govern the universe and be the same everywhere, all the time.

Atheism isn’t rational. It’s a belief system that must borrow from the Christian worldview in order to argue against the Christian worldview!

The Genesis Account of Noah’s Ark

10 Episodes - The Ark is a common target for those who wish to mock a plain reading of the Bible. Even within the Christian church, many allow a modern, skeptical mind-set to impact their understanding of the biblical account. What did the Ark really look like? Does the Bible shed any light on the size or construction of the Ark? How would the Ark compare to the ships we have today? How could Noah round up all of the animals on the earth? Has Noah’s Ark been found? Is there any symbolism in the Ark? We answers these questions, and more, in the Genesis account of Noah’s Ark.
